What is district basketball?
The Basketball SA District Competition is South Australia’s elite representative basketball league, featuring male and female teams across Junior (Under 10–Under 20), Youth League (Under 21 Men’s & Under 23 Women’s), and Senior (open age) divisions.
Each age group is structured into divisions, typically starting from Division 1 and extending through to lower divisions (in some age groups down to Division 6), ensuring competitive balance and appropriate skill placement.
District Basketball in South Australia is organised into three main competition phases based on age, with the Championship season running from February to August, followed by a pre-season period from October to December.
Games are held at various venues across metropolitan Adelaide depending on age group, division, and fixture scheduling. Clubs grade players based on ability to ensure teams are placed in the most suitable division for their development and competitive level.
What are the seasons?
Basketball runs over two ‘seasons’, Pre-season/Grading & Championship. The Pre-season/Grading Season runs from October to December with no finals. The Championship Season runs from Late January/February to August. There is a week break during each school holiday for junior grades, with a longer 5 – 6 week break in games over December/January.
What is my age group?
To be eligible to play in an age group, players must be under the relevant age on December 31 in the year the season ends. For example, to play Under 10 in the 2025/2026 seasons, players must not turn ten until after December 31, 2025.

Boys:
U10s & U12s = size 5
U14s = size 6
U16s and above = size 7
